Responsive emblem systems
Times are changing. We, explicit® believe that adapting visual solutions goes hand in hand with the exponential growth of the new industrial revolution.
Digital formats are more important than ever before, and brands must be powerful enough to be recognized even at the smallest of scales. The rate that changes take place is increasingly fast, so companies need to ready themselves in order to successfully keep up with the world.
According to Statista’s data, time spent browsing the net on mobile phones has gone up by a factor of five in the past 10 years. Other, perhaps less obvious services - such as voice search functions - are also gaining in popularity. In other words : the future is pretty unpredictable. Therefore, brands must be prepared to provide the best customer experience through their visual identity, from the smallest to the largest platforms of communication, on a case-by-case basis.
At explicit® we’ve been creating responsive emblem systems from the start, in keeping with our clients’ needs. We believe this helps brands prepare themselves for the future and for inevitable digital transformation, whether it’s to take place in a few years or decades.

Colleagues may ask, why did we feel the need for this? “A logo should work in black-and-white, small and large.” This is the classic foundation of graphic design that we always keep track of when designing emblems. In the case of the WFC, as well as the Hungarian Museum of Ethnography, we came up with a creative concept that originates from the emblem itself. Due to this, the emblem could be applied in context on each surface, showing less or more of itself all while retaining familiarity thanks to its responsive nature.

The emblem is open to change for it is dynamic and flexible, able to scale down to the very smallest of sizes and still be functional, but also to grow in size and expand its form to further the brand’s visual impact. This example is the answer to the question above: if we had designed a static mark, we would have reduced the brands’ complex and variable means of communication.

Functionality and the expansion of the brand
Such were the guidelines we used to create responsive systems. We design a “brand DNA” (lowest common denominator) for the company, not a “set in stone” emblem. This ensures that the brand can appear on all of the constantly renewing surfaces and platforms with ease and flexibility. The result is that the companies’, institutions’ or organizations’ issued communication is encompassed within a visual language that represents all of the brand values, thanks to the “brand DNA” (or lowest common denominator).
From a technical viewpoint, our emblem designs deliver the same impact on the smallest known digital platforms as they do on 10 meter billboards. Our method makes it possible for an emblem to be recognizable across all the different types of layouts that are used for the visual communication of brand identity.
